D.J. Dave C. Spinnin' @ The Vault in Redlands

It's a Tuesday summers night in Old Town Redlands. The sun went down a few hours ago, the coffee shop just finished putting in the last of their patio chairs and, along with the other little botiques near by, closed up. The old victorian brick building corner strip is empty. . .except for this one place where the chinesse lamps give off a warm glow and a few people are sitting enjoying some drinks and conversation. The Vault Martini Bar is in a state of "in betweenness": in between a state of emptiness and just enough to give it some life.

Around 9 - 10 p.m. a solitary man comes in, observes his surroundings and is greeted by the evening manager. Tables are set up, laptop and turntables are put in place, and speakers are put into position. Suddenly the bar music is turned off and all is silent.

The outsider flips the switch and the vinyl on both turntables begins to spin. The laptop screen gives off a soft glow onto his face as the needles fall into the grooves. Like a sudden burst of energy from a live wire, The Vault is suddenlty filled with life. A mixture of elctro, old-school hip-hop, new-wave, etc. is pumpin' through the speakers as the outsider checks out the response from the growing crowd to see what he should mix in next.

Hipsters, hip-hop-heads, New-wavers, eager guys and beautiful women looking for some fun, filled The Vault. The music was attracting them just like, to use a weathered old expression, moths to a flame. The bartenders were racing back and forth between thirsty clients, unprepared, expecting this to be another slow Tuesday night. Instead, it looked like a busy Friday night crowd thanks to The Outsider, the man known as Dave C.

Photo's by your's truly (except for the first one which I got off The Vaults myspace place)

Hasta La Proxima,
