Very Intimate Crowd

Friday night was chill. Haven't been out much lately and I'm glad to have had this as my first outing in a while. I'll set the scene for you amigo y amiga:

An empty brick building in the old part of town which had been the home of a couple of jazz cafe's over the past few years. For some reason that spot doesn't seem to keep it's new tenants for too long.

Inside, dim lights give way to a cool atmosphere. The wood floor creaked as we walked in. The bar had drinks which were brought in from outside and there were a few hipsters sipping on their bottles of cerveza. Everyone's attention was focused to the other side of an archway within the building.

On the other side everything was dark except for the lights shining over a man slowly beating on his bongos, a guitarist strumming a psychedelic rift, and a man reciting some spoken word. There were around 50 or so people sitting on the ground, taking in these words as they floated in the air and mixed with the sounds of the guitar and bongo. James Luna, that Native American Beatnik, the performance artist, had everyone's attention as he spoke about life on the reservation, life during these hard times, and an appreciation of. . . .life. . .in general. Snapping fingers and claps would follow at the end of each of his performances.

Later after James Luna stepped down, the small crowd welcomed in Ursula Rucker. We were amazed that here, in of all places downtown Riverside, right next to the Mission Inn, in a little brick building, we were being honored with the presence of such a great poet. Her words filled the air with inspiration, opened our minds even further to the sometimes sad truths of this society. It was all done with dope beats and cool guitar rifts. Though I wish the crowd could have been more vibrant and a bit larger, I'm sure she appreciated the time she spent with us. I'm glad Riverside is starting to expand on cultural art, this place still has a way to go but it's getting there.

For info on either of these two great poets check them out at:

Diddy - Message To The DJ

Sometimes it seems like I'm the only one that likes Diddy out of all of my friends. Watching this video blog, you will be able to fully understand why I like him. He understands what entertaining people is all about. He always stays real and never is embarrassed to be daring. Everything he talks about here is exactly why I wanted to dj and what I strive for EVERY single time I go out and spin. I thank everyone of my supporters out there, and especially the fans that love it if I'm not always playing the top 20 jams and mix in some old school or something different than the norm. Thank you, I love y'all!
